Description
The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of ACL-R in higher-level athletes by combining data from sport governing bodies of the six most popular knee strenuous sports in Sweden (football, floorball, ice-hockey, alpine sports, basketball, and handball) and the Swedish National Knee Ligament Registry (SNKLR) during the period of 2005 to 2020. We aimed to find potential differences in incidence of ACL-R between sports and sexes. We also wanted to compare the ACL-R IR in higher-level athletes with the general population during the same period to quantify possible difference between athletes competing in these six sports and the general population. It was hypothesized that females would have a higher ACL-R incidence compared to males, and that higher-level athletes would have a higher ACL-R incidence compared to the general population.
