Description
Patients treated with BMAC at the time of hip arthroscopy had significantly lower VAS pain scores than those not treated with BMAC in the early postoperative period, despite undergoing bone marrow aspiration, at multiple time points. This decrease in VAS scores held after multivariate linear regression. Thus, not only does BMAC contribute to lower reported pain levels, its harvesting does not increase pain perceived by patients undergoing hip arthroscopy. Interestingly, patients in both groups used a comparable number of NSAIDs and opioid pills. This study represents the first investigation of the effect of an orthobiologic on postoperative pain after hip scope. All BMAC patients initially had worse articular damage; thus, their lower VAS scores are even more noteworthy
