Description
Two hundred and three patients (155 men, 48 women), affected by grade III-IV acute or chronic chondral/osteochondral lesions or osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions of the femoral condyles, trochlea, and patella were consecutively treated. All the clinical scores significantly improved: the IKDC Subjective significantly increased from baseline to all evaluations up to 24 months of follow- up, ranging from the baseline value of 43.5±15.9 to 73.8±18.3 at 24 months (p<0.0005). The Tegner score also significantly increased from the preoperative level to all follow-up evaluations, without reaching the pre-injury activity level. This one-step cell-free biomimetic approach is effective in treating isolated knee lesions, leading to a significant clinical improvement with a very low failure rate and few complications at short-term follow-up.
